About Photon Academy, enrolment, fees, and location

Not everyone needs tuition. However, the IB Diploma involves numerous out-of-exam assessments — IAs, the Extended Essay, TOK — where a skilled tutor can make a significant difference. Photon Academy helps students work efficiently, avoid common mistakes, and achieve top grades without unnecessary stress.

Message +65 9712 4269 via WhatsApp to schedule a trial lesson. Once you are satisfied, officially enrol for regular lessons. There is no long-term contract — just consistent, high-quality tuition.

Photon Academy is led by Mr. Ejaz, an experienced IBDP tutor who has taught over 1,000 IB students. Only well-established and respected IBDP tutors are selected to join our faculty — including active IB examiners, published authors, and university lecturers.

Recognised IBDP expertise. We understand Singapore's IB schools, curricula ordering, May and November examination sessions inside and out. Our tutors are specialists — not generalists — and our results speak for themselves: 95%+ of students score 6 or 7 in their subjects.

No honest tutor can guarantee a specific grade. What we guarantee is expert guidance, structured preparation, and proven methods. Success requires collaborative effort between tutor and student — and our track record shows that this collaboration consistently produces outstanding results.

IB Math Tuition

AA & AI, HL & SL — View IB Math Tuition page

IB Math AA (Analysis and Approaches) focuses on pure mathematics — algebra, calculus, proof, and abstract reasoning. It is best suited for students planning degrees in mathematics, physics, engineering, or economics. IB Math AI (Applications and Interpretation) focuses on real-world modelling, statistics, and technology-assisted mathematics. It suits students heading into social sciences, business, biology, or psychology. Both are offered at HL and SL.

IB Math HL is widely considered one of the hardest subjects in the IB Diploma. The syllabus is broad, the pace is fast, and Paper 3 (unique to HL) demands unseen problem-solving. With proper guidance, structured practice, and early exam technique training, a 6 or 7 is achievable — which is why 95%+ of our students reach this target.

Our students come from ACS(I), SJI, SOTA, UWCSEA (Dover and East), OFS, HCIS, ACS International, SJI International, CIS, AIS, and Tanglin Trust. 100% of our SJI and ACS(I) students achieved 6 or 7 in their IB Math examinations.

Yes. IA support is included as part of our tuition programme. Our tutors guide students from topic selection through to final write-up, helping them understand the assessment criteria and avoid common mistakes. We also help with IA topic selection — identifying topics that are mathematically rich, personally interesting, and likely to score well.

Over 95% of our IB Math students score a 6 or 7. In the November 2024 IB examinations, 100% of our students from SJI (Singapore) and ACS(I) achieved a 6 or 7. Our tutors — Mr Ejaz, Mr Dee, and Mr Aliman — have collectively taught over 1,000 IB students across Singapore and internationally.

Paper 3 is unique to HL and tests extended problem-solving and investigation skills. We run monthly Paper 3 mock sessions from Year 1, exposing students to a wide range of investigation formats. Students learn to break unfamiliar problems into manageable steps, communicate their reasoning clearly, and manage time across multi-part questions.

Ideally, students should begin IB Math tuition at the start of Year 1 — or even before, with our pre-IB bridging programme. Starting early allows time to build strong foundations, stay ahead of the school syllabus, and integrate IA preparation naturally. Students who join in Year 2 can still improve significantly, but earlier intervention gives the best results.

IB Physics Tuition

New 2025 Syllabus, HL & SL — View IB Physics Tuition page

Under the new IB Physics syllabus (first assessed 2025), both HL and SL study the same five themes — Space, Time & Motion; The Particulate Nature of Matter; Wave Behaviour; Fields; and Nuclear & Quantum Physics. HL students cover additional depth within each theme, including rigid body mechanics, special relativity, thermodynamic cycles, and stellar physics. Both levels sit Paper 1 and Paper 2 plus the IA — there is no longer a Paper 3 or HL options.

IB Physics HL remains one of the most challenging IB subjects. The new syllabus integrates topics previously reserved as HL options — special relativity, rotational mechanics, and astrophysics — directly into the core curriculum. This means broader content with higher mathematical demand. With structured IB Physics tuition and past paper practice, 95%+ of our students score 6 or 7.

Yes. IA guidance is included in our tuition programme. Our tutors help with topic selection, experimental design, data analysis, evaluation, and write-up structure — all aligned to the IB mark scheme criteria.

Our students come from ACS(I), SJI, SOTA, UWCSEA (Dover and East), OFS, HCIS, ACS International, SJI International, CIS, AIS, Tanglin Trust, and other international schools in Singapore.

IB Chemistry Tuition

HL & SL — View IB Chemistry Tuition page

Under the new IB Chemistry syllabus (first assessed 2025), both HL and SL study six topics — Structure 1–3 and Reactivity 1–3. HL students cover additional depth including Born-Haber cycles, hybridisation, buffer chemistry, condensation polymers, d-orbital splitting, and spectroscopic identification. Both levels sit Paper 1 and Paper 2 plus the IA — there is no longer a Paper 3 or HL options.

IB Chemistry HL is one of the most demanding IB subjects. The new syllabus reorganises all content into a Structure and Reactivity framework, and integrates HL-only extensions like spectroscopic identification, d-orbital splitting, electrochemical cells, and Born-Haber cycles. With structured tuition and past paper practice, 95%+ of our students score 6 or 7.

Yes. IA guidance is included in our tuition programme. Our tutor helps with topic selection, experimental design, data analysis, evaluation, and write-up structure — aligned to the IB mark scheme criteria. The Chemistry IA is a scientific investigation worth 20% of the final grade, with a maximum of 3,000 words and 24 marks.

IB Biology Tuition

HL & SL — View IB Biology Tuition page

The 2025 syllabus is organised around four conceptual themes: Unity & Diversity, Form & Function, Interaction & Interdependence, and Continuity & Change. Core topics include Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, and Ecology & Evolution. HL students study additional content such as muscle physiology, cell signalling, gene expression regulation, and cladistics.

Under the 2025 syllabus, Paper 3 has been removed. Both SL and HL students sit Paper 1 and Paper 2, aligned to the four themes. The Internal Assessment (IA) remains worth 20% of the final grade. Both papers now emphasise conceptual understanding, data interpretation, and application to unfamiliar contexts.

Yes. Both SL and HL are fully covered. Under the 2025 syllabus, HL extensions are embedded within the thematic structure rather than treated as separate add-ons, so our HL tuition focuses on deeper conceptual connections across all four themes.

Absolutely. Many of our students combine Biology tuition with other IB subjects such as Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and Economics. Our scheduling is designed to accommodate multiple subjects without conflicts. View all available subjects on our Programs page.

IB Economics Tuition

HL & SL with Ms Bea — View IB Economics Tuition page

IB Economics SL covers the core four units — microeconomics, macroeconomics, international economics, and development economics — in 150 teaching hours. HL covers the same units in greater depth across 240 hours, adds quantitative analytical extensions to each unit, and includes Paper 3, which tests policy analysis and numerical skills. HL is preferred or required by many universities for Economics, Finance, PPE, and Business degrees.

SL students sit Paper 1 (two extended response essays) and Paper 2 (data response across all four units), plus an Internal Assessment portfolio of three commentaries. HL students also sit Paper 3, which introduces quantitative policy analysis. The IA contributes 20% of the final grade.

IB Economics is significantly more demanding. IGCSE introduces economic concepts descriptively; IB requires students to evaluate policies, argue competing perspectives, apply diagrams precisely, and connect theory to real-world data. HL adds further quantitative analysis. Students who found IGCSE Economics manageable often need structured support to make the transition successfully.

Yes — IA guidance is included in all programmes. Ms Bea helps students choose current, relevant news articles, identify the correct economic concepts to apply, structure their commentary clearly, and evaluate effectively to maximise marks on this 20% component.

IB English Tuition

English A & B with Mr B, IB Examiner — View IB English Tuition page

IB English B is a Language Acquisition course designed for students learning English as a second or additional language. It focuses on communicative proficiency — producing text types, receptive skills, and oral communication. IB English A (Language and Literature) is a literature and language analysis course for students whose strongest language is English. It focuses on critical analysis of literary and non-literary texts, academic essay writing, and global issues in literature. Mr B teaches both courses.

Start by deeply studying the texts you plan to use and identifying strong global issues that connect to them meaningfully. Practice structuring a 10-minute presentation that introduces the extract, analyses key features, and builds to a discussion of the global issue. Practise with timed mock sessions. Mr B prepares students with the exact question types teachers and examiners use in the discussion phase.

The most common mistakes are: producing the wrong text type (e.g., writing a letter when the task requires a report), using inappropriate register, poor paragraph structure, not addressing the purpose and audience clearly, and running out of time. Mr B's structured approach ensures students know exactly what each text type requires before they sit the exam.

Common mistakes include: treating the two works separately rather than genuinely comparing them, making unsupported assertions without textual evidence, writing a pre-memorised essay that does not respond to the specific question, poor time management, and weak conclusions. Mr B trains students to adapt their preparation to any question, not just to memorise content.

Mr B marks real IB English assessments as an active IB English examiner. This means he knows precisely how marks are awarded and deducted for each assessment component — not from a textbook, but from direct examining experience. Students receive feedback that reflects real examiner thinking, identifying specifically what would cost marks in an official assessment and what would secure them.

IB Chinese Tuition

Chinese A & B with Native Tutors — View IB Chinese Tuition page

It depends on the student's existing Chinese level. IB Chinese B SL is designed for students with a good foundation — roughly equivalent to a solid IGCSE Chinese second language level. Students who enter with weaker foundations often find the syllabus pace challenging without proper support. Our Pre-IBDP Chinese B bridging programme is specifically designed to prepare students before Year 5 begins.

Chinese is one of the most valuable languages in the world — for business, culture, and academic study. IB Chinese B is a strong choice for students with a working knowledge of Chinese who want to consolidate and formalise their skills. For native or near-native speakers, Chinese A offers a rigorous literary and analytical education. Both courses are recognised by universities globally.

Paper 1 requires students to produce a range of text types in Chinese — including formal and informal letters, articles, blog posts, speeches, reports, brochures, and diary entries. Each text type has specific structural conventions, register requirements, and audience expectations. A major focus of our tuition is ensuring students know exactly what each text type requires, as this is where many marks are won or lost.

Yes. IA guidance is included for both Chinese A and Chinese B. For Chinese B, this means Individual Oral preparation — extract selection, presentation structure, and discussion practice. For Chinese A, this covers the full range of assessed components including the IO and HL Essay. We also offer specialist guidance for students writing their Extended Essay in Chinese.

IB Theory of Knowledge (TOK)

Essay & Exhibition with Mr B, IB Examiner — View IB TOK Tuition page

Theory of Knowledge is one of the three core components of the IB Diploma Programme. It is a philosophical course that challenges students to examine the nature of knowledge itself — asking how we know what we claim to know, what counts as evidence, and how different disciplines construct and validate knowledge.

Yes — significantly. The combination of TOK and the Extended Essay can add up to 3 bonus points to your total IB Diploma score out of 45. A strong TOK grade can mean the difference between 40 and 43 points, which matters greatly for university admissions. Conversely, a grade E in TOK is a failing condition for the entire IB Diploma.

The TOK Exhibition is an internal assessment where students choose three specific, real, personal objects and link all three to one of 35 IA prompts provided by the IB. Students write commentaries (up to 950 words total) explaining how each object connects to the chosen prompt through a knowledge lens. A strong exhibition requires genuinely personal objects, clear connections to TOK concepts, and a cohesive argument across all three objects.

The TOK Essay is a 1,600-word external assessment on a prescribed title. Each year the IB releases two sets of six titles — students choose one corresponding to their graduation semester. Unlike a standard essay, the TOK essay requires arguing both for and against the title, exploring multiple perspectives across different Areas of Knowledge.

The most common mistakes are: (1) writing the TOK Essay like a normal academic essay without genuine knowledge questions; (2) ignoring counter-arguments or treating them superficially; (3) using generic or second-hand examples rather than specific, personal real-world cases; (4) choosing abstract or non-specific objects for the Exhibition; and (5) leaving both assessments too late. Mr B addresses all of these from the first session.

IB Business Studies

HL & SL with Mr Paul — View IB Business Studies page

We cover all five units of the IB Business Management syllabus: Introduction to Business Management, Human Resource Management, Finance and Accounts, Marketing, and Operations Management — plus the HL extensions and the Internal Assessment.

SL students sit Paper 1 (structured questions based on a case study) and Paper 2 (data response). HL students also sit Paper 3 (a pre-released case study with strategic questions). Both SL and HL complete an Internal Assessment — a research project on a real business issue.

The IA is a research project where students investigate a real business issue using primary and/or secondary research. It is worth 25% of the final grade for SL and 20% for HL. We guide students through topic selection, research methodology, and report writing.

Absolutely. IB Business Management is highly valued for applications to business, economics, management, marketing, and finance programmes at universities worldwide. A strong grade demonstrates analytical thinking and commercial awareness.
